Default The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader (2010)

The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader (2010)
IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0980970/

Thought i'd start a thread for this one, beacause after much delay and up and downs in development this film is finally into production right next door to me at Warner Roadshow Studios, QLD, Australia.

It'll be worth following the production through to the completed film.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be adapted as the third film in Walden Media's The Chronicles of Narnia film series.

PlotSpoiler: Lucy and Edmund Pevensie return to Narnia with their cousin Eustace where they meet up with Prince Caspian for a trip across the sea aboard the royal ship The Dawn Treader. Along the way they encounter dragons, dwarves, merfolk, and a band of lost warriors before reaching the edge of the world.

Michael Apted takes over as director from Andrew Adamson, who opted to produce with Mark Johnson, Perry Moore and Douglas Gresham.

Will Poulter joins the cast as Eustace Scrubb, while Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, Ben Barnes, Peter Dinklage, Eddie Izzard and Liam Neeson are all returning.

Steven Knight wrote the script following a draft by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Richard Taylor, Isis Mussenden and Howard Berger continue their roles working on the production design and practical effects, while visual effects supervisor Jim Rygiel, composer David Arnold and cinematographer Dante Spinotti are those joining the series.

Filming will take place from July to November 2009 on the Gold Coast, Queensland, and the film will be released on December 10, 2010.

When Apted signed on to direct The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in June 2007, filming was set to begin in January 2008 for a May 1, 2009 release date. Shooting would have begun in Malta, and then moved to Prague and Iceland. A few months later, Disney announced that "in consideration of the challenging schedules for [its] young actors", they were delaying the release date to May 7, 2010, and filming was moved to October 2008. Johnson rescheduled the shoot to Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, where two-thirds of the film would be shot at the water tank that was used for Titanic and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Filming was also scheduled for Australia. Disney and Walden eventually grew concerned over Mexico's safety, and Australian officials at Warner Roadshow Studios in Queensland offered to become the project's base for the whole shoot.

It was announced in January 2009 that 20th Century Fox would replace Walt Disney Pictures as distributor. Disney and Walden disputed over the budget after Prince Caspian grossed far less than The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; Disney wanted to limit it to $100 million, whereas Walden wanted a $140 million budget, for which Disney would only need to provide half. In December 2008, Disney opted not to produce the film because they feared the budget would only grow during filming and post-production.

Fox had pursued the Narnia film rights in 2001 and distributed various other Walden projects and took over as cofinancier.

I've managed to snap a few shots of the production already, not too much going on right now, as its only the first week of principle photography. There was a bit of second unit/extras scenes shot last week on a temporary bluescreen out the front of WB Movieworld.

This week the crew has moved behind the studios to an outdoor tank with a submersive rig to help shoot Spoiler: a scene which involves flooding a room. I believe the complicated nature of such work has delayed the schedule a bit already.

Work is currently going on preparing WRS main outdoor tank for upcoming scenes. A large blue or green screen is in the process of being errected alongside the tank -- unfortunately it will also serve as a view breaker for any passerbys.

From what little I've managed to see already the art department is working great guns on this film and the set for the dawn treader looks phenomenal! It's been dismantled for transport from the Gold Coast up to Cleveland for the exterior shoot.

Update: This past week, construction began around WRS primary outdoor tank. A large bluescreen has been errected, and set pieces placed in the tank.

I caught a glimpse of part of the dawn treader as it was transported out of the studios this morning. Has some great finishing details on the set piece, painted in dark green with red banisters and gold trim.

AICN got a link to some good quality pics of the Dawn Treader nearing completion on loaction.

Default Narnia 3 Trailer

The trailer was due out in 4-5hrs, but has leaked online a few hours early: See it HERE.

I believe the scene shown in the trailer when Spoiler: Edmund and Lucy return to Narnia through the painting and flooding of the room was amongst the first scenes to be shot in 2009 at Warner Roadshow Studios in the smaller above ground tank

(not the best photo, but this is what is happening here. Next to the third soundstage along, under the crane)
